Lapeer County

Organized in 1835, Lapeer County takes its name from the French as a derivation of "LaPierre," meaning "stone" or "flint." Located 60 miles north of Detroit, 70 miles east of Lansing, and only 20 miles east of Flint, Lapeer County ranks as the 22nd most populous among Michigan's 83 counties with 90,776 residents. The county consists of 18 townships, 7 villages, 2 cities, encompasses 666 square miles, and is a well-balanced community of farms, industry, retail, and urban residents.
