Lapeer County
Economic and Demographic Data
Lapeer County
Organized in 1835, Lapeer County
takes its name from the French as a derivation of "LaPierre,"
meaning "stone" or "flint." Located 60 miles north of
Detroit, 70 miles east of Lansing, and only 20 miles
east of Flint, Lapeer County ranks as the 22nd most
populous among Michigan's 83 counties with 90,776
residents. The county consists of 18 townships, 7
villages, 2 cities, encompasses 666 square miles, and is
a well-balanced community of farms, industry, retail,
and urban residents.
